URBAN RIDERS

bike picHave fun exploring Appleton on two wheels with your friends! As an Urban Rider you'll learn bike handling skills, rules of the road, and build your confidence riding a bike! We will practice navigating intersections, roadways and changing lanes while riding to other neighborhoods, on the local trails, and other places you may want to bike to with your friends. Rides may include the Skatepark at Telulah Park, Mead Pool, trails and fun spots to pick up a cool treat or satisfy your sweet tooth. You may want to ride your bike to school every day after this camp!

Bring a helmet and a bike that is in good working condition. Highlights of this program include: learning more advanced bike handling skills, understanding your bike and how it works, route planning and rules of the road, learning how to fix a flat tire and more!

The first class will be skills, drills and evaluation to break up into two different level groups, attendance is required.

LOCATION: Pierce Park

*We are looking for volunteers to help with our Instructors with the Urban Riders program and if you are interested in helping, a prerequisite is attending the Safe Bicycling classes in April 19 & 26 from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  These are FREE classes, but registration is required.

BIKE RODEOS

Bike Rodeos - The Bike Rodeo will teach your child the basic skills needed to bike safely on the road. Stations will include looking back without swerving, riding straight while missing potholes and crossing busy streets safely. Other stations may include seeing and being seen, chaos corner and riding safely out of a driveway. In addition, children will learn basic bicycle sizing and maintenance. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate so they too learn "cycling road sense." The May Bike Rodeo will have the Appleton Police and Fire departments there to help join in the fun and support May being Bike to School Month. This is a great opportunity for you and your child to learn safe bicycling together.
